Welcome to Retirement Countdown

I’ve spent over 30 years in pensions and retirement working for some of the UK’s largest companies.  About 10 years ago, I decided to strike out on my own and become a consultant.  During the first lockdown some of my clients cancelled or postponed projects.  That meant I had time on my hands. Having exhausted my DIY skills – it didn’t take long – I set myself a challenge:

‘To develop a site that helps people make the most of their finances at retirement’

Most of us only retire once, so we’ve no experience to draw on.  There’s good, well-written material already out there.  But is it enough? In my view, people need direction. To be taken on a journey.

Retirement Countdown guides you through a 12-step programme to a better retirement.  The site doesn’t provide a personal recommendation,  that’s called ‘advice’ by the industry regulator.  Retirement Countdown provides information in a structured format.  A format that helps you understand what to do at each stage.  The regulator calls this ‘guidance’.  We use ‘advice’ and ‘guidance’ interchangeably in everyday conversation, but these words have very specific meanings in finance.  Guidance means you’re in the driving seat.  You make the decisions.  What’s our role?  We provide you with the information you need to make those decisions.

If you find the site useful, please spread the word.  The site is completely free to use.  Just click on any step to find all you need to know.

And come back again.  We’re adding new content regularly to our News section.  In fact, if you’d like to know whenever new content is posted, leave us your email address and we’ll make sure you don’t miss a post. Other than an email address, we won’t ask for any other information.

So pop the kettle on. Grab a Garibaldi. And strap in.
